Summer at Diamond K Horses was a season of focused training and preparation as we worked diligently with our incoming and training horses. This period was important for setting the stage for our upcoming sales and ensuring that our horses were ready for their new homes.
A Season of Intensive Training
The arrival of new horses meant a busy summer for our team. Our primary goal was to prepare these horses for the upcoming sale season by refining their skills and enhancing their versatility. Each day involved a rigorous training regimen that included reining maneuvers and ranch riding work. We were dedicated to making sure each horse was polished and performance-ready.
To ensure that our horses were adaptable and reliable in any situation, we incorporated a variety of training exercises. We took the horses into town, where they encountered different sights and sounds, which helped them become accustomed to a variety of stimuli. This experience was crucial for their overall development, ensuring they could remain composed and focused in diverse environments.
We also explored various trails, testing the horses on different terrains to build their confidence and adaptability. In one of our more creative training exercises, we even had a water gun fight on horseback. This fun activity not only provided a break from routine but also tested the horses’ ability to stay calm and controlled in unexpected scenarios.

Preparing for the Sales
As summer progressed, our attention shifted toward the fall sale schedule. We were preparing for a busy season with several important events lined up. The first major sale on our calendar was The Best of Texas sale, hosted by Premier Horse Sales. For this event, we planned to showcase five exceptional horses: Smooch, Gellert, Charmer, Ronan, and Prince. Each horse had been meticulously prepared to ensure they would stand out to potential buyers.
Following that, just one month later, we were gearing up for the Best of the West sale. We planned to bring three more horses to this event: Vinny, Sterling, and Bazooka. The summer training had set a solid foundation, and we were eager to see the homes our horses would find and the partnerships they would form with their new owners.
Our focus throughout the summer was not only on the technical skills but also on making sure each horse was well-rounded and capable of handling various situations. The goal was to present horses that were not only skilled but also adaptable and dependable, making them ideal for any level of rider.
Looking Forward
As we prepared for these sales, we remained committed to our core values of quality and versatility. The summer’s hard work was an investment in our horses’ future success, and we were excited to showcase their abilities in the upcoming fall sales. With each horse ready to demonstrate their best qualities, we were ready for the busy season to begin.
